Pick one thing you would both enjoy: coffee and a gallery, an hour on the Cam, or dinner before a show. These Cambridge date ideas work for meeting someone new as well as seeing a casual partner again, without turning the afternoon into a test of romantic commitment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Start small: Hot Numbers and a free museum visit<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Hot Numbers Coffee<\/a> has Cambridge caf\u00e9s on Gwydir Street and Trumpington Street. Choose the branch when arranging the meeting; the Roastery is in Shepreth, outside the city. The published daily hours are 7am\u20135pm at Gwydir Street and 7am\u20136pm at Trumpington Street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you both want to continue after coffee, suggest the Fitzwilliam Museum<\/a> on Trumpington Street. General admission to the collection is free, although some exhibitions are ticketed. For a first meeting, discuss whether you both actually want a boat trip before paying. Sharing a boat does not imply physical intimacy, and a guided trip may suit you better if you would prefer to concentrate on the conversation.<\/p>\n\n\n

Decide whether you mean food in the bar or a restaurant table before agreeing a budget. A \u00a316 basket meal is not the same offer as a restaurant main. The published restaurant hours run until 9pm Sunday\u2013Thursday and 9.45pm Friday\u2013Saturday, while the bar stays open later. This is a practical way to make dinner optional: arrange a drink first, then ask whether you both want to order. There is no need to dress it up as a grand occasion or pretend to spend more than you can comfortably afford.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SIX at the Varsity Hotel<\/a>, on Thompson\u2019s Lane, is the sixth-floor restaurant. The outdoor roof terrace is a separate space one floor above. This distinction matters if the main reason for your date is a skyline view and the forecast is poor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For a larger dinner budget, SIX\u2019s published lunch and dinner menu<\/a> includes wild mushroom risotto at \u00a319.50, lobster roll at \u00a332.50 and an 8oz fillet steak at \u00a341.50. It adds a discretionary 12.5% service charge. Drinks are extra; its zero-alcohol cocktail section gives an alternative to making the evening about drinking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Roof Terrace<\/a> publishes seasonal, weather-dependent opening hours and does not accept reservations. It is cashless and may close in adverse weather. An indoor dinner reservation does not reserve an outdoor seat. If you want a planned meal, book the restaurant; if you want the roof, check it is operating and keep an alternative in mind.<\/p>\n\n\n

The theatre is on Park Street. Check the actual performance\u2019s start time, price and running time, then agree whether to meet before it or discuss the show afterwards.
