That is a light lunch, not a claim that every dinner costs less than £10. A Crispy Chicken Burger with the listed fries costs £10.45; two burgers plus two £2.95 cans come to £26.80.
For curry, the half-kilo Butter Chicken is £14.95, while naan is £2.45 each and steamed white rice is £2.45. One of those curries, two naan and one rice total £22.30 before drinks. Ask the staff whether that quantity suits your appetites: a half-kilo label is not a guaranteed full meal for two. Order individually if you prefer different spice levels or do not want to share.
The branch opens at 11am daily. Its published closing times are 11pm Monday to Thursday and Sunday, midnight Friday and 1am Saturday. Confirm kitchen service when arranging a late meal, and check the branch menu again before going.
Saltaire works better as a daytime date
Saltaire is the UNESCO World Heritage Site; that designation does not cover the whole of Bradford. At Salts Mill, admission and parking are free. Looking at art or browsing the bookshop gives you something to discuss without requiring a paid activity. Leave purchases and food as optional extras.
The mill normally opens Wednesday to Sunday and closes Monday and Tuesday, with listed holiday exceptions. Areas have different hours: the 1853 Gallery is open 10am–5pm on weekdays and 9.30am–5pm at weekends, while Gallery 3 closes at 4pm. Check the official opening section for your particular date.
For food, Salts Diner recommends booking. Lunch service is 11.45am–3.30pm, although it closes at 4.30pm and sells drinks, cakes and toasted items throughout. Café in to the Opera is a walk-in alternative for sandwiches, cakes and light bites, normally Wednesday to Sunday, 11am–3pm, with last orders at 2.45pm. These are daytime choices; do not plan an evening restaurant visit around the mill’s galleries.
Pearls on Rooley Avenue: cream tea or a fuller meal
Pearls Tea Room & Patisserie is at 46 Rooley Avenue, BD6 1DA, rather than beside Salts Mill. Its current May 2026 menu lists Yorkshire Cream Tea at £8 each, including speciality tea and a scone with preserve and clotted cream. Two cost £16: a manageable plan if you want a table and a treat without a full dinner.
For a longer afternoon, English Afternoon Tea is £40 for two; the Desi version is £35 for two. Confirm availability when reserving. If you would rather eat a main, the lamb shank roast and chicken roast are each £24.95, so two roasts total £49.90 before drinks and extras. There is also a £12 Classic Wisconsin burger with fries, giving a lower food spend of £24 for two.
The venue advertises a live pianist from 10am to 2pm daily on its visit page. That gives you a different atmosphere from a pub date; check the performance if it is the reason you are going. Published opening is 9am–9pm except Saturday, which closes at 10pm. Ask about food service and any booking conditions for your chosen time.
A free city-centre alternative if dinner feels too much
The National Science and Media Museum overlooks City Park and opens daily, 10am–5pm. General museum entry is free, with advance tickets recommended during busy periods; walk-up visitors may wait. Cinema screenings are separately booked, so do not assume a film is included in free entry.
Suggest one gallery and a conversation afterwards rather than trying to cover every floor. The museum café closes at 4pm. If you both want a film instead, check the actual Pictureville listing and ticket price for your date; a screening leaves less time to talk than meeting before it.
