Off the Ground, at 63 Grange Road, works as a coffee-first option when you are not ready to commit to a full meal. Its published hours are Monday–Saturday, 10am–3pm, with the kitchen closing at 2.30pm; Sunday opening is 10am–2.30pm, with food until 2pm. This is a daytime meeting, rather than an evening café date.
Keep the invitation specific: “Coffee on Saturday, then see how we feel about lunch?” is easier to answer than an open-ended promise of a big night. Ordering a drink first also lets you decide on the food budget together.
Choose your parmo budget at Bazaar
Bazaar is at 15 Captain Cook Square. Its menu gives you several ways to make dinner fit your budget, from pizza or a half parmo to a steak. Discuss what you fancy before booking, especially if one of you wants a quick meal and the other expects a longer dinner.

The same menu lists an Egyptian stew at £18 as a vegan option. Check allergies and dietary requirements directly with the restaurant. Bazaar publishes Tuesday–Saturday opening from noon, with last food orders at 9pm, and Sunday from noon, with last food orders at 5pm. It is closed on Mondays.
Bedford Street cocktails, with the offer conditions clear
The Nuthatch, at 9–11 Bedford Street, is an evening alternative to a full dinner. Its regular published opening starts at 5pm on Thursdays and Fridays and 3pm on Saturdays. Check availability before making it the meeting point.
There is something current to try: its 2026 cocktail menu includes the Goldfinch at £10.55. A classic Negroni is £11.30, while the low/no section includes a Chilli Mango Nojito at £9. Ask about ingredients if you need a drink with no alcohol at all. The menu notes an optional 10% service charge.
For a smaller drinks budget, its published offers include selected cocktails at £8 on Thursdays and Fridays when ordered before 8pm. This applies to the selected drinks during those times, so do not assume the whole menu is £8 or that the offer runs on Saturdays.
One landmark to leave out of your date plan
The Tees Transporter Bridge is closed. Middlesbrough Council records its closure in 2019 because of safety concerns and continuing work to assess the structure. Do not plan a crossing, glass-lift tour or walk along the upper bridge. Choose an open venue for the actual meeting.
