Brighton dates are easy to overplan: beach, pier, dinner, another bar, then a late train. A better starting point is one place you both want to try. These Brighton date ideas give you three different moods: a daytime bakery stop, an informal meal by the sea, or a booked dinner around sharing plates.
For someone you have just met on Shag, keep the invitation specific and the expectations clear. Casual dating can mean enjoying one afternoon together without deciding where the relationship is going. Agree on that with the person you are meeting, rather than assuming Brighton’s nightlife makes everyone want the same thing.

Keep it small: a Kemptown bakery stop
Open Bakery’s Kemptown shop is at 34 St George’s Road. Its published hours are Monday–Saturday, 7am–5.30pm. This is a bakery-stop plan: choose something from the counter together, rather than promising a reserved restaurant table.
It is the low-spend option here because you can limit the order to one baked item each and a drink if you want one. Check counter prices and whether there is somewhere suitable to sit before ordering; online pre-order products are not a reliable quote for your in-shop date. The separate workshop venue is at 63–64 St George’s Road, so use the shop address when arranging your meeting.
If the weather suits you both, add a short walk afterwards. Set a meeting point at the shop and leave the duration open: “a pastry and half an hour outside” is a clearer invitation than an unspecified day at the beach. For Sunday, pick another verified venue rather than relying on the bakery’s Monday–Saturday schedule.

Stay near the water, with food and shelter in the same plan
Shelter Hall, at Kings Road Arches, combines several kitchens under one roof. Its current food line-up includes VIP Pizza, Saltio, ThaiAngle and Temaki Bros. You do not have to agree on one cuisine before meeting.
The hall is a practical fallback when a seafront walk turns windy or wet. Choose your food budgets separately and compare the live menus before buying; two small snacks and two full meals are different plans. VIP Pizza’s page links to the live ordering menu, so check that rather than an old delivery price from another branch.
For conversation, ask about the first-floor seating rather than assuming a busy food hall will feel quiet. Table bookings are available. Published building hours are Monday–Thursday 11.30am–11pm, Friday–Saturday 11am–midnight and Sunday 11am–10pm; individual kitchen service can finish earlier. Check the events calendar if you want a low-key meeting.
Make sharing the point of dinner at Burnt Orange
Burnt Orange is at 59 Middle Street, near the seafront and The Lanes. Its wood-fired Mediterranean food makes it a useful option when both of you enjoy ordering several dishes together. Talk about dietary needs and whether you actually want to share before booking.
The published Experience menus give you a concrete comparison: £39 per person for the standard sharing menu, or £78 for two before drinks and any service charge. The vegetarian menu is £37 each, or £74 for two, with a vegan option available. These menus require at least two guests and are offered for up to six; dishes are seasonal samples.
For a shorter meeting, compare the à la carte and drinks menus instead. The venue is cashless. Its official pages give different last-seating times, so confirm your chosen food reservation directly; a bar closing time does not mean the kitchen will still take your order.

The sea is an optional extra, not an obligation
A short stroll can be a good way to continue a date that is going well. It also costs nothing before food, transport or attractions. Choose a populated route and a realistic turnaround point, and check the weather together. Do not make a long beach walk the only option for someone who would prefer a seat, step-free access or an indoor meeting.
Leave time for your journey home. You can enjoy dinner without adding a club, and enjoy someone’s company without inviting them back. Ask before physical contact or changing plans; a relaxed evening depends on both people wanting the next step.
