Brunch or a Friday/Saturday dinner at Skylark
Skylark, at 52 Grove Road in Little Chelsea, combines a daytime café-restaurant with evening dining on Fridays and Saturdays. It focuses on seasonal food and local suppliers, and has a courtyard. That makes it worth comparing for either a daytime date or an evening meal, without assuming the courtyard has a sea or city panorama.
The official menu page separates brunch, sample lunch and sample dinner menus. Choose the one that matches your booking. You can make a modest daytime plan or allow more for dinner, but decide from the actual menu rather than treating every café-restaurant as the same price.
Wine and a larger food budget at CRU
CRU Restaurant & Wine Bar, at 8 Hyde Gardens, offers à la carte lunch and dinner Thursday–Saturday and a separate Sunday menu. It lists Monday–Wednesday closures. Its September 2026 à la carte menu gives a useful budget guide: small plates such as padrón peppers cost £9.50, squash risotto is £26, and sirloin steak is £32. Sides and drinks increase the total.
Small plates can suit sharing if you agree what to order; a few dishes each will cost more than one listed plate. If you want a conventional dinner instead, compare the large plates. Mention any seating preference when booking, as the restaurant has both high bar-style seating and low tables.
From casual chat to an actual date
A message such as “Want to try Skylark for brunch on Saturday?” is easier to answer than a promise of the perfect romantic day. If you want a shorter meeting, suggest the pier or a coffee. Discuss what “casual” means to each of you before meeting; it does not imply that either person has agreed to sex.
