The published cover charge is £2.50 per person per hour. Two adults playing for two hours therefore pay £10 in cover charges, with food and drinks extra. The booking limit is four hours on weekdays and three at weekends. This is a useful option if you would rather put your money towards an activity than a big dinner.
It is closed on Tuesdays; check its opening hours before suggesting a day. Evening and weekend tables can be busy, so use the booking page. Read the cancellation conditions too: cancelling within 24 hours can incur a £10-per-person charge. A reservation is a commitment to the café, not to spending the rest of the evening with your date.
Keep it short near Bold Street: The Egg
If you want a smaller plan, meet for a drink and a slice of cake at The Egg Café, on the top floor of 16–18 Newington. Its vegetarian menu includes soup, a spicy bean burger and homemade cakes, with vegan options. Breakfast is served until 1pm, so an earlier meeting could be pancakes or a cooked breakfast instead.
A café stop lets you order a snack rather than commit to several courses. The website does not give prices for those dishes, so check the counter or contact the café before agreeing an exact spending limit. Do not assume every dish is vegan or suitable for an allergy simply because the café is vegetarian.
Access matters here: the café says it is on the second floor with no lift and has no wheelchair access. If either of you needs step-free access, choose another venue. Sunday closing is earlier than on Saturday, so check the published hours if you are planning an afternoon visit.
Sharing plates, with a choice of neighbourhood
Maray gives you two Liverpool options: 91 Bold Street for a city-centre meal, or Unit 4, Britannia Pavilion at the Royal Albert Dock if you want the waterfront setting. Choose the actual branch when booking; the hours and journey are different.
Its official menus list vegetable-led plates alongside fish and meat, with a separate vegan menu. Ask about allergies before ordering: sesame is used extensively and the restaurant warns that it cannot guarantee removing it entirely.
For a mid-budget daytime date, the lunch sample currently linked on its website lists one mezze and two plates for £20.95, Monday to Friday from noon to 4pm, excluding bank holidays. That is £41.90 for two lunch deals, before drinks and any additional charges. The linked PDF is marked 2025 and Maray labels its menus as samples, so confirm that offer and price with your chosen branch before relying on it.
Sharing is optional. Ask what each person wants to eat, agree roughly how many plates to order and decide how you will split the bill. There is no need to turn a casual lunch into a test of generosity.
Save the longer dinner for a date you both want
Manifest, at 4a Watkinson Street in the Baltic Triangle, is a smaller restaurant with counter seating and six tables. Its seasonal food makes it a different proposition from a quick café meeting: choose it when you both want to spend time on dinner and are comfortable with the cost.
The Chef’s Choice sample dated 13 August 2026 lists a seven-course menu at £95 per person: £190 for two, before drinks or any other charges. The optional wine pairing is another £65 each; it is not part of the food price. Menus change with the season, so check the current version before booking.
Manifest asks for a £25-per-person deposit for Chef’s Choice and says it can provide vegan and vegetarian menus when notified at booking. It offers lunch and dinner services Wednesday to Saturday. Request a table or counter seat through its reservations page, but do not promise your date a particular seat: the restaurant says requests cannot be guaranteed.
Choose one plan, then leave room to decide
For a first meeting, suggest The Egg or a short Sugar and Dice booking. For a meal with a clearer spending limit, check Maray’s lunch offer. For a more substantial food date, discuss Manifest’s menu and price first. You do not need to combine all four stops into one itinerary.
A message such as “Fancy a couple of games on Saturday? The cover would be £5 each for two hours, then we can decide whether to get food” is more useful than a vague promise of an amazing night. It names the activity, sets the cost and gives both people an easy way to decide.
